Some Pool Safety Tips
As a pool owner you must be extremely aware of the potential hazards, particularly to small children, that a large body of water poses.
- Supervise pool users at all times especially children.
- Never leave a child unsupervised around the pool.
- Ensure where possible that the pool is clearly visible from the house.
- Ensure the regular maintenance of fences and gates.
- Never leave a gate open or leave objects near the pool area that could be used by a child to climb over the fence.
- Place "No Diving" signs near your pool unless it has been specifically designed to allow safe diving.
- Remove objects or furniture that could be used as diving platforms.
- Drinking and swimming don't mix - don't allow alcohol to be consumed by pool users.
- Keep glass away from the pool area, using plastic can prevent injury.
- Obtain adult training in basic resuscitation techniques.
- Display a CPR chart in the pool area.
- Most pool covers are not designed as an aid to safety and can be a potential hazard.
There is never any substitute for competent supervision of pool users.
